Three Shibir suspects assaulted at RU

A faction of Bangladesh Chhatra League of Rajshahi University unit on Wednesday night beat up three students, including two outsiders, suspecting them of Shibir activists. The victims are Faysal Ahmed and Monwar Hossain, students of Islami Bank Medical College located near the university, and Mahadi, a resident student of RU's Ziaur Rahman Hall. Sources said Faysal and Monwar came to the dormitory to study some newspapers for their research work. A BCL group loyal to the RU unit BCL president suspected the two as Shibir activists and started clobbering them with iron rods. The two boys were released about 45 minutes later. Meanwhile, the university authorities along with law enforcers yesterday recovered three petrol bombs, three axes, and two machetes from room-352, which was once controlled by a Shibir activist. The room was sealed after the February 9 violence last year, in which BCL worker Faruque Hossain was killed. The dormitory officials said they unlocked the room for fresh allotment and found the explosives and the sharp weapons there.
