Love motherland, protect independence
Young students urged
Eminent journalist Shahriar Kabir and historian Muntasir Mamun called yesterday upon the youths to learn to love the motherland and its people alongside getting education.
They were speaking to some 500 students who achieved GPA-5 in Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations this year, during a reception ceremony in Rajshahi Medical College auditorium. Vision 2021, a local social group, hosted the reception with its President Mojibor Rahman in the chair.
Shahriar Kabir described the country's independence through the liberation war of 1971 as the biggest achievement in the 5000-year-old history of Bangalee.
He urged the students to learn to protect the achievement.
The country's enemies are still trying to jeopardize the success and new generation should learn about the enemies, he said.
Stressing the learning of human qualities, Muntasir Mamun said, "Good results are sufficient for good jobs. But the results will be justified when these come to the benefit of mass people".
The reception was also addressed by Rajshahi Education Board Chairman Prof Tanbirul Islam, Sammilito Sangskritik Jote General Secretary Dr Sayed Shafikul Alam, politicians Shafikur Rahman Badsha and Asaduzzman, and social activist Rabiul Alam Babu.
