JP to contest next JS polls independently
Says Ershad
Jatiya Party, a major ally of the Awami League-led grand alliance government, will contest the next parliamentary elections independently, said the party Chairman HM Ershad yesterday.
The next general elections will surely be held on time whether BNP participates or not, he said while briefing newsmen at a press conference at his Baridhara residence in the capital.
On BNP's threat to boycott the next polls if it is held under a political government, Ershad said it is not their concern who will participate in the elections or not.
“We know, we will participate,” he added.
The Jatiya Party chief was a bit critical of Awami League for holding talks with smaller parties.
“BNP, as opposition party, can hold talks with smaller parties to increase their strength. But, Awami League does not need to do the same,” Ershad said.
“By holding talks with smaller parties, Awami League is undermining itself,” he added.
