Current nets worth Tk 40 lakh seized in Bay
Bangladesh Coast Guard seized current nets worth about Tk 40 lakh in the Bay near Sonadia under Moheshkhali Police Station in Cox's Bazar yesterday.
Coast Guard sources said a contingent of Coast Guard from Cox's Bazar outpost halt a trawler through which fishermen were fishing Jatka (Hilsa fry) and seized about 70 thousand meters of current nets worth about Tk 40 lakh.
Hilsa fishes are alarmingly decreasing in the Bay as fishermen are fishing through the current nets and some trawler owners compelled them fishing through the nets, Coast Guard officials said, adding, "To stop the illegal Jatka fishing, our drive will continue".
