Sedition Case
Charges framed against 8 top Jamaat-Shibir leaders
A Chittagong court here yesterday framed charges against eight top leaders of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) and five other opposition political parties in a sedition case. They were accused for making "derogatory remarks" about the prime minister and home minister.
The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Bipul Kumar Saha also rejected bail prayer of former president of ICS Rezaul Karim, one of the accused now behind bars in the case. The remaining accused were released on bail.
The court fixed November 14 as the next date for the case hearing.
Md Abu Taiyab, general secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League Chittagong (north) district unit, filed the case with the court of 5th Judicial Magistrate on November 2 last year.
