BCL activists mar Ctg AL meeting
Activists of two BCL factions marred the district Awami League workers' meeting at Muslim Institute Hall here yesterday chanting slogans and clapping relentlessly in presence of the home minister.
Members of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) loyal to AL city unit President ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury and Primary and Mass Education Minister Afsarul Amin chanted slogans in the name of the two leaders during the two-and-a-half-hours long meeting last afternoon.
Home Minister Sahara Khatun was the chief guest at the meeting jointly organised by AL Chittagong city, north and south district units as part of a central programme to implement 'Vision 2021'.
No speaker including the chief guest could be heard clearly due to the chaos. The BCL activists clapped and chanted slogans standing on chairs.
Much to the annoyance of the home minister, the BCL men went on clapping when she recalled the brutal killing of party founder and other leaders on August 15 in 1975 and on August 21 in 2004.
“How dare you clap when I am talking about the brutal killing of our leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman?” Sahara questioned.
“If you continue this, I shall stop,” she warned the troublemakers and asked them to chant slogans only in the names of Sheikh Mujib and Sheikh Hasina.
She concluded urging the local leaders to resolve their difference of opinion.
Chaired by AL south district unit President Akhteruzzaman Chowdhury MP, the meeting was addressed by minister Afsarul Amin, AL central leaders Ahmad Hossain, Aminul Islam and ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, among others.
