5 Hizb ut-Tahrir men held
Five members of banned Islamist outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir Bangladesh were arrested from the city early yesterday.
A huge quantity of leaflets and other publications were also seized from their possession, said Major Khurshid Alam, deputy director of Legal and Media Wing of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab).
Rab arrested adviser of the organisation Mahmudul Bari, 41, from Shahjalal International Airport around 1:00am yesterday when he was trying to leave for Malaysia, he said.
Bari was also the managing director of developer company, Silver Sand Reality.
He had been playing key role in the organisation after the arrest of its senior leaders like Mohiuddin Ahmed, Golam Moula and Kazi Morshedul Huq, claimed Rab officials.
Rab also seized a huge quantity of publications of the banned organisation from his possession.
In another raid, Gulshan police arrested four alleged young members of Hizb ut-Tahrir from a house in front of South East University around 5:45am, said the police.
They are Anisur Rahman, Sabbir Ahmed Bhuiyan, Afzal Hossain and Maruf Islam Nadim.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Masudur Rahman said police also seized a huge number of leaflets and other publications from their possession.
On October 22, 2009 the government banned all kinds of activities of Hizb ut-Tahrir Bangladesh and since then around 400 leaders and activists of the organisation have been arrested across the country.
