Drive Against Illegal Projects
Over 12 billboards demolished
Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakhya (Rajuk) in an eviction drive knocked down more than a dozen of billboards and signboards of half a dozen illegal private housing projects in the city's eastern fringe yesterday.
The drive was carried out in Uttarkhan and Dakhhinkhan areas.
The projects, of which signboards were demolished, included Ashyan City, Spring Town of Metro Group, Wasin City of Bepari Land Development, Swarnali Abasan of Swadesh Properties and Rahmatnagar Abashik Prokalpa of Dishari Real Estate, said Rokon-Ud-Dowla, executive magistrate of Rajuk.
The projects are being developed illegally in violation of master plan, wetland and environment conservation laws and private housing development rules in and around the capital city, said Rokon, who led the drive.
Two authorised officers of Rajuk, a deputy town planner and two inspectors assisted the drive.
A High Court bench on June 8 declared a total of 77 private housing projects illegal and directed Rajuk to evict such projects, remove signboards, earth-filling and stop sale of plots.
