Body formed to probe NICVD corruption
A parliamentary body yesterday formed a three-member sub-committee to investigate alleged corruption and irregularities in the National Institute of Cardiovascular Disease (NICVD).
Headed by Prof M Amanullah, the sub-committee was asked to submit its report before the main committee within next two months. The two other members are Dr Matiur Rahman and Dr Anwar Hossain, also lawmakers of Awami League.
The parliamentary standing committee on health and family planning ministry at its meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban also asked the ministry to investigate alleged corruption in the Essential Drugs Company Ltd, a government-owned drug manufacturing company, and submit the report before the committee.
Talking to this correspondent after the meeting, Prof M Amanullah, also a ruling AL MP, said they have received several allegations of corruption in purchasing different costly medical equipments for the NICVD.
“The sub-committee will investigate alleged corruption and irregularities that took place during the tenures of both the past BNP-Jamaat-led government and present AL government”, Amanullah said.
"If the parliamentary watchdog is not satisfied with the ministry report, we will form a sub-committee to unearth irregularities in the Essential Drugs”, he said.
