Dyeing factory fined in Mymensingh

The Department of Environment (DoE) has fined Advanced Composite Textile Ltd, a dyeing factory in Mymensingh, Tk 30 lakh yesterday on charge of polluting the environment with toxic industrial waste. Md Munir Chowdhury, director (Enforcement) of DoE conducted a drive at the factory and fined its proprietor for illegally operating without setting up an effluent treatment plant (ETP). As a result, untreated liquid chemical waste released from the plant, which dyes 2.5 metric tonnes of knit fabrics daily, contaminate Labnang canal and adjoining agricultural land.
