Pre-Eid city traffic
Better management expected
The pre-Eid traffic clogs in the city are a rather familiar scene to the city dwellers. Although a breather is around the corner, now it is being too difficult to negotiate tailbacks.
Movement of vehicles has been severely hampered by scattered works of repair, or improvement of the roads. Dug-out holes on some roads have only added to road users' plight, especially after occasional showers have turned those into veritable hell of mud and slime.
In some parts of the city where repair or improvement work is ongoing, one would come across a single lane that has been forced to accommodate both-way traffic.
In consequence, one would find a free-for-all among the vehicles operators leading to total chaos. In many such places one would hardly find any traffic police to guide movement of the stream of vehicles jostling with one another for space.
The utility service providers like Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA), the Titas Gas, etc are not sitting idle either. And as if to make things worse, they have added to the sufferings of the road users by starting fresh digging on some roads. And since there is little coordination among the Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) and the various utility service providers, the gaping ditches on the roads often remain unattended for an indefinite period.
Briefly put, all these just pile on the agonies of the common road users as well as travellers on the eve of Eid.
The DCC and the utility providers of the city should not at least make things worse, if they cannot do better on these pre-Eid days.
