Bishwa Sahitya Kendra reading contest begins

Bishwa Sahitya Kendra, a non-profit institution promoting reading habits among students and general people, launched the third Citi Agamer Alo Competition yesterday. Students from 50 colleges in 15 districts of Dhaka and Chittagong division will engage in reading 24 great books in Bangla and world literature. In 18 weeks, the students will have to read at least six of the books to get the least recognition as a reader. Students, who will complete reading 12 books by the time, will get the best reader award in the competition expected to be participated by 4,000 students. The organisers will provide the books at the college libraries to be collected by the enthusiasts in exchange of only Tk 80 as security money. The winning students will be awarded in four categories with 2100 copies of books in the competition funded by Citi Foundation. Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed, president of Bishwa Sahitya Kendra, inaugurated the book reading contest at a press conference at its headquarters in the city yesterday. Rashed Maksud, managing director and Citi country officer of Citi Bank NA, Bangladesh was present on the occasion.
