DCC to destroy one lakh litres of adulticide
Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) last week decided to destroy one lakh litres of substandard insecticide supplied to them.
A company, The Limited Agroproducts, supplied Tk 3.45 crore worth of “Limited Liquid Insecticide” on August 7 to the DCC as per a work order contract of June, said its officials.
However, when DCC tested the adulticide on captive mosquitoes, only a negligible percentage were found dead, said DCC sources.
The adulticide must be able to kill at least 80 percent of the mosquitoes sprayed on, they said.
DCC Chief Health Officer Brig Gen Md Nasir Uddin said the 500 drums of adulticide would be destroyed later.
The company has been asked to give a fresh supply by next month, said Mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka.
Also, a committee headed by the DCC chief executive officer will take a decision regarding blacklisting the supplier, he said.
"If the contractor fails to supply it by the scheduled time then we will cancel the work order," said Nasir.
Agroproducts Director Mizanur Rahman said the company has been supplying adulticide for last two years. Their adulticide is pure, but it failed in the test due to bad weather, he claimed.
DCC has enough adulticide in the stock to support its anti-mosquito drive for a month, said its officials. However, residents of different areas in the city informed that the DCC's drive is still not visible.
