US lauds Dhaka's move

Diplomatic Correspondent
The United States lauded Bangladesh for the government's ongoing counter-terrorism efforts, which have denied space to and prevented the unfettered operation of transnational terrorists seeking to establish a safe haven in Bangladesh. “Bangladesh continued improving its counter-terrorism cooperation with its international partners in 2010,” said the US State Department's Country Report on Terrorism-2010 released in Washington on August 18. It said the Awami League led government has been committed to combating domestic and transnational terrorist groups. On legislation and law enforcement, it said the government passed the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2009 and was in the process of fully implementing the law, including Bangladesh's first counter-terrorist finance provisions, during 2010. Bangladesh cooperated with the US and other international partners to further strengthen control of its borders and land, sea, and air ports of entry.
