Musa plans to conquer world's 6 tallest peaks
The country's first Everest conqueror Musa Ibrahim was yesterday honoured as the Tourism Ambassador of Bangladesh as he sets off to surmount six other tallest peaks around the world.
Musa along with two other mountain climbers in the country Niaz Patwari and MA Sattar will start their journey on September 2 to conquer the African continent's tallest mountain Kilimanjaro (19,340 ft).
North Alpine Club Bangladesh called a press conference in the city's Jatiya Press Club to make official announcement of the journey.
Summit Group, JAN Associates Limited and Abul Khayer Group are sponsoring the journey.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister GM Quader handed over the 'Tourism Ambassador' token and a Bangladeshi flag to Musa at the programme.
“He will make Bangladesh and its flag familiar to people around the world," said the minister.
"He will promote the country's natural beauty among the foreigners, attracting them to come to Bangladesh and helping flourish the tourism sector thereby,” he added.
The government will provide him all sort of aid during his endeavour, he assured.
“I'll try my best to brand Bangladesh as a tourism spot before the world”, said Musa receiving the honour.
Earlier, Niaz Patwari, teacher of North South University, said mental strength is a must apart from physical fitness.
“You can never say no, when you are climbing a mountain”, he added.
Niaz accompanied Musa to the base camp during his Everest triumph on May 23 last year.
Alongside, MA Sattar, a retired government officer, sought blessings from all and hoped that his upcoming adventure will encourage other senior citizens to join.
The team hopes to reach Mount Kilimanjaro in 10-12 days given the pleasant weather.
After that, the trio will climb Mount Elbrus in Europe (18,510 ft), Aconcagua (22,835 ft) in South America, Denali (20,320 ft) in North America, Vinson Massif (16,067 ft) in Antarctica and Carstensz Pyramid (16,023 ft) in Australia.
