Road crashes kill 7, injure 20

Seven people were killed and 20 others injured in separate road accidents in Pabna, Rajbari, Chittagong, Tangail, Munshiganj and Bagerhat yesterday. Our Pabna correspondent reports: One man was killed on the spot and five others were injured when a speedy truck hit a CNG-run passenger loaded Lagoona at Johurabad in Sadar upazila yesterday. The deceased is Md Pathan Hossain, 35, of village Ataikula of Pabna. Our Manikganj correspondent says: A youth was killed on the spot when a bus hit him while it was parking at Daulatdia Ghat of Goalunda upazila in Rajbari yesterday. The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately. However, 'Shamim' was written on his right hand by the colour of mehedi, police said. The bus driver left the spot after keeping the body under a sit in his bus, police said. Later, with the help of local people police arrested the driver and seized the bus. Staff correspondent from Chittagong adds: A rickshaw-van puller was killed as a recklessly driven Banshkhali-bound bus rammed the van in Shah Amanat Bridge area under Bakalia Police Station in the port city yesterday. The deceased is identified as Jan-e-Alam, 45, son of Chhagir Ahmed, of Shikalbaha of Karnaphuli Police Station in Chittagong. Later, police chased the bus and arrested its driver, Ismail, 37. Our Tangail correspondent says: Two people were killed and 15 others injured as a Dhaka-bound bus collided head-on with a truck on Bangabandhu Bridge Link Road in Ballavbari area around 5:00am yesterday. Osman Ali, 26, helper of the bus, and truck driver Babu Miah, 30, died on the spot. Our Munshiganj correspondent adds: A minor girl was crushed under the wheels of a bus when she was crossing the road in North Medeni Mandol area of Louhajong upazila of Munshiganj. The deceased is identified as Ety, 10. Police seized the bus but its driver fled the scene. Our Bagerhat correspondent adds: Rokeya Begum, 45, was killed when a motorbike hit her while she was crossing the road at Boitapur in Sadar upazila at noon yesterday. The body was sent to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
