Rainbow Warrior II, a Greenpeace ship contributing to environmental movements and campaigns in seas since 1987, anchored in Chittagong port yesterday. Greenpeace donated the ship to Friendship Bangla-desh, a non-government organisation (NGO), to provide healthcares to the poor people in the coastal region of Bangladesh. Friendship officials said the ship would be taken to a private dockyard on September 4 for some renovations and then to Western Marine Shipyard for installations required to convert it into a floating hospital. Rainbow Warrior II would take 6-7 months for renovation until it starts providing healthcare, said Runa Khan, executive director of Friendship Bangladesh. The floating hospital will be able to provide healthcare to 200 people on average everyday. Greenpeace handed Rainbow Warrior II, now renamed Rongdhonu, over to Friendship Bangladesh in Singapore on August 16.
