One dead, 7 injured in water tank explosion

A man died while seven others were severely injured as trapped flammable gas exploded inside an underground water tank of a residential building in city's Kamrangirchar on Tuesday. The deceased Mohammad Nasir was a tenant of the building while the injured include the building's owner Rafiqul Islam and his tenants Nazrul Islam, Mohammad Shamim, Sujan, Jewel, Jahangir, and Mohammad Sohel. The injured were rushed to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital where Nasir succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday while Jahangir was shifted to City Hospital in Mohammadpur on Thursday. The condition of Sujan, Rafiqul, Jewel and Jahangir were stated to be critical. When the men took an electric bulb into the tank, which they were cleaning, it broke, igniting the trapped gas and causing the explosion, said Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Nasir Ullah of Kamrangirchar Police Station. An unnatural death case was filed in connection with Nasir's death, he added.
