Six killed in road accidents

Six people, including a student, were killed and six others injured in separate road accidents in Narayanganj, Gaibandha, Narsingdi, Pabna and Savar on Wednesday and yesterday. Our Narayanganj correspondent reports: A college student was killed on the spot when a stone-laden truck hit him while he was talking with his other college friends standing beside Narayanganj-Adamjee road in Siddhirpool area of Sadar upazila. The deceased is Irfand Ahmed Sifat, 17, son of Jasim Uddin and an HSC first year student of Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College at Jatrabari. Locals and his classmates barricaded on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway and Narayanganj-Adamjee-Demra road nearly one-and-a-half-hour and vandalised at least 30 vehicles protesting the accident, which created a huge tailbacks. Kamrul Alam Mollh, officer-in-charge (OC) of Siddhirganj Police Station, said police went to the spot and charged batons to disperse the agitating people. Police seized the truck but its driver managed to flee the scene, the OC added. Our Gaibandha correspondent adds: One man was killed and six others injured when a passenger loaded three-wheeler lost its control and fell into a roadside ditch after skidded off the road while it was giving side a speedy motorcycle coming from opposite direction on Dhopadanga-Sunderganj road at Natun bazar yesterday. The deceased is Rafiqul Islam, 40, owner of Bogra Master Tailor Shop. The injured were admitted to Sunderganj Health Complex. Our Narsingdi correspondent says: A youth was killed when a sand-laden trolley fell on him while he was replacing a tyre of the trolley after it was punctured at Charmandalia bazar of Monohordi upazila yesterday. The deceased is Sohel, 18, helper of the trolley. Our Pabna correspondent adds: One man was killed on the spot as a Pabna-bound speedy bus hit him while he was crossing the highway on the Dhaka-Pabna highway at Gangarampur village on Wednesday night. The deceased is Abdul Latif, 55, of village Madhupur in Sadar upazila. UNB from Savar says: Two employees of National Beverage Company were crushed under wheels of a Manikganj-bound speedy bus when they were walking in sidewalk on the Dhaka-Aricha highway near Hemayetpur Bus Stand in Savar yesterday. The deceased are identified as Abul Kashem, 55, floor supervisor of National Beverage Company and Monwarul Hossain, 40, a security man. Both were resident of Joynabari area. The bodies were sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue, police said.
