RU students demand cut in price hike of application forms

RU Correspondent
Around 200 students of Rajshahi University (RU) staged demonstration on the campus yesterday demanding the university authorities to curtail the recently hiked price of first year application forms of 2011-12 academic sessions. The students under the banner “Students against increased fees” held a protest rally at Tukitaki Chhttar where they alleged that the price of registration forms were almost doubled as part of a conspiracy to privatise RU. They said the price rise adds to the miseries of poor students already burdened with the rising price of educational materials. They threatened to go for tougher programmes including indefinite strike if the price is not curtailed within 24 hours. Later, leaders and activists of Progressive Student's Alliance, an organisation of left leaning student organisations, submitted a memorandum to Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Abdus Sobhan to take necessary steps within 24 hours. The VC assured them of looking into the matter. Chhatra Union President Rafi Ahmed Chanchal, Secretary Shipon Ahmed, Chhatra Front General Secretary Pallob Battacharya, Chhatra Federation General Secretary Roki and some students addressed the rally.
