International Day of Democracy today

Unb, Dhaka
The International Day of Democracy will be observed in Bangladesh today like elsewhere in the world as the occasion is significant in national and international perspective. The theme of the day this year is “What do citizens expect of their parliament?” The decision to observe the day was taken through a resolution adopted by United Nations on December 13, 2007. Since then, inter-parliamentary union decided to observe the day on September 15 every year and motivated parliaments across the world to observe the day. In Bangladesh, Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat will hold a roundtable on 'What do citizens expect of their parliament?' at Jatiya Sangsad (old minister hostel) at 3:00pm today. In a message on the occasion, Speaker Abdul Hamid Advocate hoped that Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad will be a centre stage with the combined efforts of all for fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of the people.
