'Save Kapotakkho to ensure waterflow'

Speakers yesterday stressed the need to prepare a master plan involving the local people, public representatives and experts to save the Kapotakkho river. They were addressing a meeting in the Dhaka Reporters Unity, said a press release. The government will have to implement a technical solution for the river, said former BUET vice chancellor Prof MM Safiullah. The Kopotakho river has been flowing over capacity for years causing water logging in Khulna, Satkhira, Jessore, Jhinaidah, and Chuadanga. Speakers suggested ensuring water flow in the river up stream connecting Mathabhanga river by excavating it. Kapotakkho Rakkha Andolan Member Secretary Nikhil Bhadro and water expert M Inamul Haque presented the keynote paper. Dr Rashid E Mahmub of Jano Udyog presided over the meeting.
