Russians Visit Rooppur N-Plant
Division of scope of works determined
Bangladesh and the Russian Federation have primarily determined the division of scope of works for carrying out various studies in a bid to set up a nuclear power plant at Rooppur in Pabna.
A high-level experts' meeting between Bangladesh and Russia at the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission in the city on Thursday primarily fixed the division of scope of works after reviewing the outcome of a visit to Bangladesh by a high-level Russian experts' team, an official of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project said.
The division of scope of works will be finalised soon, he said.
The areas of studies to be carried out include topographic, engineering, seismic, hydro-geological, geo-dynamic, metallurgical, meteorological and ecological.
A 16-member Russian expert team during its visit to Bangladesh from September 11-15 visited the planned nuclear power plant project area at Rooppur.
The Russian team also held meetings with experts of Buet, Dhaka University, Department of Environment, Bangladesh Meteorological Department, Bangladesh Water Development Board, Geological Survey of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, and Institute of Water Modelling.
They expressed satisfaction over the planned nuclear power plant after holding a series of meetings with the Bangladesh experts.
Site specific study, engineering survey and environmental study are very important for setting up nuclear power plant, according to an expert of Rooppur project.
