A large number of devotees from across the country observed the traditional Ganga-snan (dip in the Ganges water) at Shombolpur Ghat of Hemayetpur village in Pabna, marking the 124th birth anniversary of revered Hindu sage Thakur Anukul Chandra on Friday. Earlier on Thursday, a two-day religious and cultural festival organised by Satsangha Bangladesh was inaugurated on the premises of Pabna Town Hall on the occasion. "The devotees observe the traditional Ganga-snan at Shombolpur ghat for purification of soul every year, marking the birth anniversary of Thakur Anukul Chandra. This is 44th consecutive Ganga-snan festival organised by Satsangha Bangladesh," said Tapon Sarkar Hari, organiser of Pabna unit of Satsangha Bangladesh. “Shombolpur Ghat of Hemayetpur village is a holy place for the devotees as the Thakur, a resident of the village, took bath here,” he said. Shrikunjo Bihar Aditya, president of Satsangha Bangladesh, chaired the inaugural programme while lawmaker from Pabna-5 constituency Golam Faruk Khandaker Prince spoke as the chief guest. Among others, Pabna Deputy Commissioner Md Mostafizur Rahman, Pabna Sadar upazila parishad Chairman Mosharaf Hossain, Secretary of Satsangha Bangladesh Dhritabata Aditya and advocate Shafikul Islam Shibli spoke. The speakers urged upholding Anukul Chandra's teachings and ideals to establish fraternity among all, leaving aside narrow communal attitude for the sake of humanity. 'Abirvab', a book on the life and works of the sage, was opened on the occasion.
