'Take Tipaimukh issue to int'l courts'
Sachetan Prokoushali Samaj, a rights organisation, called on the government to take the issue of Tipaimukh Dam to international courts, including the United Nations, said a press release yesterday.
The dam would create severe environmental problems in Bangladesh resulting in death of rivers and forestry, and droughts.
The issue has exposed the government's diplomatic failure, the release said.
In a separate press release, central committee of the Zia Sena said the government's silence in the Tipaimukh issue has embarrassed and humiliated the nation.
Leaders of the water rights watch group and International Farakka Committee (IFC), in a joint statement, expressed deep concern at the Manipur government's move to construct the Tipaimukh Dam at the upstream of Bangladesh's Meghna River.
