Prepare to face new challenges
Hasina urges army
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged army personnel to groom themselves as efficient members of the Bangladesh armed forces and prepare to apply new technologies to face challenges in their mission to establish peace in global arena.
She was addressing an army parade on the occasion of National Standard giving ceremony to Bangladesh Infantry Regiment (BIR), second artillery force of Bangladesh Army and annual commander conference of the regiment at Rajshahi Cantonment yesterday.
Handing over the national flag to the parade commander, the prime minister said, “It's a great pleasure for me that I formally hoisted the flag of the Bangladesh Infantry Regiment (BIR) on April 21, 2001, and after ten years the regiment has been awarded the national standard.”
Listing her government's steps taken for modernising the armed forces, Sheikh Hasina said, the government had prepared “Forces Goal 2030” to build those up as a modern, efficient and well-organised force in light of “Vision 2021”.
On the occasion, a smart contingent of BIR presented a guard of honour to the prime minister. Sheikh Hasina inspected the parade and took the salute.
Ministers, chiefs of the three services, parliament members, senior military and civil officials attended the programme.
Later, Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone of an indoor firing range in the cantonment.
