Female police contingent off to Congo

The government yesterday sent its second all-female police contingent to a UN peacekeeping mission in Congo. The 125-member contingent led by Nasima Akhter, additional deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, flew to Congo in a UN charter flight from Shahjalal International Airport. Bangladesh sent its first all-female police contingent to a UN peacekeeping mission in Haiti on May 16, 2010. Bangladesh sent 2095 police members, the highest sent by any UN country, to different UN peacekeeping missions across the world. AKM Kamrul Ahsan, public relations officer of Police Headquarters, told The Daily Star that 14 Bangladeshi Formed Police Units (FPU) including the female police contingent are working in UN peacekeeping mission in six countries.
