Australian HRC official Broderick due tomorrow

Elizabeth Broderick, the sex discrimination commissioner of Australian Human Rights Commission, will arrive here tomorrow on a five-day visit. She will examine gender-related aspects of Australia's development cooperation programme with Bangladesh, said a press release of Australian High Commission in Dhaka. Broderick is keen to learn about Bangladesh's successes in addressing gender issues and women's empowerment, noting Bangladesh's significant achievements in women's education and female representation in parliament, it said. The commissioner will travel to Netrakona to see Brac development programmes on gender, jointly funded with Australia. She will also launch Australia's support for the Acid Survivor's Foundation, an NGO. She will participate as a keynote speaker at a seminar organised by the high commission and Brac on November 29.
