1.74 lakh absent on second day

Over 1.74 lakh examinees out of over 26 lakh remained absent on the second day of the primary terminal examinations for class five students of both general and madrasa education yesterday. Around 95 percent students from general and 85 percent students from madrasa sat for yesterday's examination, according to the Directorate of Primary Education control room data. Some 1,25,537 students from general primary and around 48,599 from madrasa were absent yesterday, the data said. Dhaka Division stood highest in terms of students abstaining from taking exams in both the groups. A total of 62,306 students did not appear the exam in this division alone, it said. Four students two from general primary and two from madrasa were reportedly expelled for taking recourse to unfair means. The examinees sat for Bangla examination began at 11:00am yesterday in 6,176 centres across the country as well as eight overseas. The examination will end on November 30.
