3 JMB men arrested
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested three suspected members of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in the city and neighbouring Dhamrai area Saturday night and early yesterday.
According to Rab officials, all three detainees are accused in the August 17 series bomb attacks.
Of the arrestees, Faruk Hossain alias Kosai Faruk, 39, is an Ehsar (fulltime) member of the organisation while Abul Hossain, 35, and Mohammad Abdul Gaffar, 30, are active members.
Director of Rab Legal and Media Wing Commander M Sohail said, Rab personnel conducted drives from 7:00pm Saturday and early yesterday. They arrested Faruk from
Dhamrai and following his information Abul was arrested from city's Kafrul and Gaffar from Mirpur.
According to the Commander, Faruk is accused in four cases including three in connection with militant acts while Abul and Gaffar each are accused in three cases filed for militancy.
A total 144 cases were filed in connection with August 17, 2005 serial bomb blasts across the country. Of the cases, the verdicts of 84 have been delivered where 24 JMB members were sentenced to death, 92 others were awarded lifetime imprisonment and 77 others were awarded imprisonment for different tenures.
