Two factories fined for polluting Shitalakkhya
A team of Department of Environment (DoE) fined two factories Tk 56 lakh yesterday for discharging toxic waste to the Shitalakkhya in Narayanganj.
The factories are Fatulla Fabrics and Robin Tex (Bangladesh) Ltd.
The team during its drive did not find presence of oxygen in the liquid waste though there should be minimum five milligram oxygen in per litre water to save the lives of aquatic species in the river.
DoE Director (monitoring and enforcement) Mohammad Munir Chowdhury also asked the factories to stop polluting the river and directed authorities of Titas Gas to disconnect the gas line of one of the factories, said a press release.
