Five held with arms, ammunition
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) personnel arrested five alleged members of a robbery gang from a city hotel in Farmgate Tuesday night and recovered firearms and ammunition from them.
The detainees were Mohammad Shahidul Islam Khokan, 36, of Kishoreganj, Shariful Islam, 19, of the capital's Maghbazar, and Mohammad Shahin, 25, Mohammad Jubayer, 22, and Abdul Halim, 28, of Gazipur.
A pistol, a revolver, two one-shooter guns, 14 bullets of pistol and two sharp weapons were recovered from the room of Hotel Sky where the detainees were staying in a bid to commit robbery, said Captain Ahmed Imrul Kayes, Rab-2 operation officer.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of 16 Rab-2 personnel raided the hotel around 11:00pm on Tuesday and caught the five while two or three more members managed to flee sensing the presence of the law enforcers,” he said.
Rab-2 handed over the five men to Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station and a case was filed in this regard.
