Thirteen killed in road crashes

Thirteen people were killed and five others injured in separate road accidents in Dinajpur, Chittagong, Sylhet, Kustia, Jessore, Sirajganj, Pabna, Panchagarh and Faridpur on early Sunday and yesterday. Our Dinajpur correspondent reports: Haresh Chan, 46, and Shanker Chandra Roy, 40, sons of late Monglu Roy of Phulbari upazila, were killed on the spot and three others injured when a bus knocked down them on Dinajpur-Bogra Highway near Rangamati village in the upazila yesterday. In another accident, Ariful Islam, 7, was killed as a bus ran over him on Dinajpur-Rangpur Highway at Raniganj around 3:10pm yesterday. Staff correspondent from Chittagong says: A truck knocked a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Sitakunda upazila on Sunday night killing its driver Abul Khaer, 45, son of Abu Taher and Mohammad Mamun, 35, son of Shah Alam and injuring another. In Sylhet, two minor children were crushed under the wheels of truck while they were crossing the Sylhet-Tamabil Highway in Khadimnagar area yesterday afternoon. The deceased are Fahim, 7, son of Fatik Miah and Sumaiya Begum, 7, daughter of Joban Miah. Our Kushtia correspondent reports: Aklima Haq Tama, 18, a college student, was killed and another injured as a truck ran over a rickshaw carrying them in Narikeltala area in the town yesterday. Our Benapole correspondent says: A truck driver Lokman Hossain, 45, son of Foyes Ali of Jhikargachha upazila in Jessore, was killed when a truck hit him while he was working at the upazila truck terminal yesterday morning. In Sirajganj, a bicyclist Osman Gani, 50, of sadar upazila, was killed on the spot as a Bogra-bound microbus crashed his cycle on western approach road of Bangabandhu Bridge yesterday morning. In Pabna, an unidentified passer-by was killed as a bus hit him at Gaspara intersection of the district headquarters yesterday. Our Thakurgaon correspondent says: Dukhu Mian, 60, of Atwary upazila, was killed when a motorbike hit him on Panchagarh-Atwary road in Panchagarh yesterday afternoon. In Faridpur, Gobinda Saha, 55, of Shovarampur village, was killed as a speeding truck knocked him down in front of Sree Angayan of the town yesterday evening.
