Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday said the government is committed to building a smart, patriotic, skilled and new leadership of the army motivated with the spirit of the War of Liberation. She was speaking at the President's Parade marking the passing out of 65th BMA Long Course and 36th BMA Special Course at Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA) in Bhatiari of Chittagong. Congratulating the newly commissioned officers, Hasina said, “Your first and foremost duty will be protecting the country's independence and sovereignty even if it requires shedding the last drop of your blood.” She also hoped that the new army officers would continue to work along with the people for the welfare of the country apart from safeguarding the nation's independence and sovereignty. “Remember that you are an inseparable part of the country's people. You are the equal partners of the people's happiness and misery,” she said. She expressed her firm belief that young army officers trained under the new curriculum of BMA will be able to give proper leadership to Bangladesh Army. The prime minister said she laid the foundation of Bangabandhu Complex of BMA two years ago as a part of the modernisation process of the force. The construction of the complex is expected to be completed by June 2013. The glittering ceremony witnessed the formal passing out of 127 cadets -- 116 from Bangladesh Army, six from Palestine and five from Sri Lanka -- from BMA. Among them, 111 cadets including two female cadets from the 65th BMA Long Course and five cadets including one female cadet from the 36th BMA Special Course were commissioned to Bangladesh Army. From the 65 BMA Long Course, six cadets were commissioned to Palestine Army, and five cadets to Sri Lankan Army. Hasina witnesses the smartly turned out parade and took salute at the impressive march-past as the chief guest. She also distributed medals and awards to the outstanding cadets. Earlier, on her arrival at the BMA parade ground, Hasina was received by Chief of Army Staff General M Abdul Mubeen, Chittagong Area Commander and GOC 24 Infantry Division Major General Mohammad Ashab Uddin, GOC ARTDOC Major General AKM Muzaheid Uddin and BMA Commandant Brigadier General Md Anisuzzaman Bhuiyan.
