Second train-hit death in 10 days

Just 10 days into a similar tragedy, a man died in Joypurhat Railway Station on Tuesday as he failed to notice a train coming from behind as he was crossing the tracks while talking on a cellphone. The victim Faridul Islam Farid, 37, son of Mamatazur Rahman of Palikadoa village of Joypurhat sadar upazila, sustained severe head injury when the train hit him before Sweeper Colony around 2:00pm, said witnesses. The locals rushed him to Joypurhat Modern Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries later that night. On December 10, Amena Begum, 24, studying political science at honours level at Joypurhat Government College, died in the same manner at the station. Amena is the daughter of Ahmedul Haque of Gobarchapa village under Badalgachhi upazila of Naogaon district. Stationmaster Md Abdul Halim said they have to take emergency initiatives to stop people from using cellphones while crossing the tracks.
