Nationalise jobs

Staff Correspondent
Teachers of different non-government primary schools yesterday demanded that the government provide specific allocation in the next fiscal year's budget to nationalise their jobs. They said the teachers will not go back to their respective schools until the government makes a specific announcement and takes necessary steps to nationalise their jobs. The demand came at a daylong sit-in programme staged by National Non-Government Primary Teachers' Oikya Parishad, a platform comprising of four organisations of non-government primary school teachers, at Central Shaheed Minar in the city. Several hundreds teachers from different districts joined the programme where they said it is not possible to ensure quality education if the teachers are paid poor remuneration. The parishad leaders announced that they will continue their sit-in today at the same venue where they will announce future programmes through a press conference at 5:00pm. The parishad President Mohammad Shamsul Alam, Member Secretary Abdur Rahman Bachhu, and Co-chairman Sheikh Abdus Salam Mia spoke at the programme.
