Restore Collaborators Act 1972: Shafiullah

Bss, Dhaka
Sector Commanders' Forum Presidium Member Major General (retd) KM Shafiullah Bir Uttam yesterday demanded restoration of Collaborators Act 1972 for the speedy trial of war criminals. “Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman enacted the collaborators act on January 12 in 1972 and the present government needs to restore it to try the identified war criminals,” he said. He was addressing a discussion organised by the freedom fighters of Sector 9 at Begum Sufia Kamal Auditorium inside National Museum in the city. Referring to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's statement where she compared the acts of Rakkhi Bahini to that of war criminals, Shafiullah said Khaleda gave the statement only to halt the trial of war criminals. Rakkhi Bahini's acts can not, in any way, be compared with that of the war criminals, he added. Demanding to set up a tribunal in each division for the speedy trial of war criminals, he said the crimes committed against humanity during the War of Liberation in 1971 were reprehensible and can not be pardoned. Whip of Parliament ASM Firoz, Sub-Sector Commander Captain (retd) Mahfuz Alam Beg, Base Commander and former lawmaker Abdul Wadud Sardar, Hemayet Uddin Bir Bikram and former police super Sheikh Ataur Rahman spoke at the discussion with the forum's Executive Member Major (retd) Ziauddin Ahmed in the chair.
