Ershad to lead Teesta long march in Jan
Jatiya Party Chairman Hussein Muhammad Ershad here last night declared that he would lead the long march to the river Teesta from Rangpur between January 15 and 20.
"The farmers are now failing to irrigate their croplands as the Teesta has dried up throwing the country into deep water crisis. We have taken the long march programme to press the demand for water sharing agreement of the Teesta with the neighbouring country", he said.
Ershad said this at a meeting with his party leaders and activists of Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions at the Rangpur Circuit House with Rawshan Ershad MP in the chair.
The former president said the non-signing of the Teesta Water Treaty with India is causing immense losses and sufferings to the country.
According to the JP leaders, over 4,000 cars will take part in the long march programme from Rangpur to the Teesta.
