2 Sust Student Killings
Another arrested
Locals handed over another suspect to police on Saturday night for his alleged involvement in the murder of two students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) on December 16.
After preliminary questioning, accused Rakib Miah was produced before the judicial magistrate court, which sent him to jail, said investigation officer Sanjib Das, sub-inspector of Jalalabad police station, yesterday afternoon.
With Rakib the number of arrestees stands at 12.
Among them, boatman Gulzar Miah gave confessional statement before the judicial magistrate court on Friday evening narrating the incident in detail.
Police officials are checking the findings, said officials.
We will file a prayer for remanding the eight other accused in a day or two, Sanjib Das told The Daily Star yesterday. The eight are Jamal Miah, Soil Miah, Shahin, Saim, Lal Miah, Abdullah, Selim and Rakib Miah.
This is making progress through the assistance from villagers and other social leaders as they handed over the accused to law enforcers, said Md Selim Hossain, officer-in-charge of Jalalabad police station.
Sust students Khairul Kabir and Dipankar Ghosh Anik were killed allegedly by a gang of muggers in Chenger Khal (canal), some 4km off the campus on December 16.
Local fishermen found the bodies of Kabir and Dipankar, both second year students of chemical engineering and polymer science department, floating in the canal at Putimara the following day and informed the police.
