Road crashes kill 6, injure 47
Six people were killed and 47 others injured in separate road accidents in Jessore, Gaibandha, Sylhet, Bogra and Satkhira yesterday.
Our Benapole correspondent reports: At least three people were killed and 10 others injured in a head-on collision between a pick up van and a goods laden truck on Jessore-Jhenidah road in Santola area of Sadar upazila in Jessore district yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Rabiul Islam, 40, pick up van driver and son of Samaul Islam, of Doulodia village of the upazila, Titul Islam, 35, son of Ayub Ali at the same village and another man could not be identified immediately after the accident.
Driver of the pick up van and two of its passengers died on the spot while Titul succumbed to her injuries after she was taken to Jessore Sadar Hospital.
Our Gaibandha correspondent says: At least a woman was killed and five others were injured when a Dhaka-bound bus of T R Travels ploughed through a roadside people gathering after the bus hit the woman while she was crossing the Bogra-Rangpur highway at Fasitola Bazar in the district yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Amena Begum, 18, of village Dakhin Digeribari of Gobindaganj upazila
Agitated local people caught the bus but its driver and assistants managed to flee.
UNB from Sylhet adds: A motorcyclist was killed and two co-riders were injured when the motorcyclist lost control over the two-wheeler and overturned on the Sylhet-Sunamganj road at Jatua in Chhatak upazila yesterday.
The deceased was Jubair Ahmed, 22, HSC first year student at M C College, and son of Abdul Jalil, of Gachhbari Banigram of Kanaighat upazila.
The injured were rushed to Koitak Hospital.
The accident sent a shock wave on M C College campus and Gachhbari Banigram village.
In Bogra, A bicyclist was crushed under the wheels of a sand-loaded truck in Phulbari area in the town.
The deceased was Delwar, 34, a bicycle mechanic, and a resident of the town.
In Satkhira, around 30 passengers of a bus were injured when the vehicle plunged into a roadside ditch as its driver lost control over the steering at Mobarakpur in Tala upazila yesterday.
The injured were admitted to upazila health complex and other hospitals and clinics.
One of the injured, Babul Akhter, was shifted to Khulna Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
Police seized the bus but its driver managed to flee.
