Road crashes kill 8, injure 12

Eight people were killed and 12 others injured in separate road accidents in Dinajpur, Netrakona, Rajshahi and Pabna in last two days. Our Dinajpur correspondent reports: At least four people, including a woman and three cattle trader, were killed and two injured when a cattle laden shallow run three-wheeler and a bus collided head-on on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj highway in Ghoraghat upazila on Thursday. The deceased was Jamuna Begum, 55, of village Sympur of Ghoraghat upazila in Dinajpur, Selim Uddin 18, of village Badda of Gobindaganj in Gaibandha, Ibrahim Kalil, 40, and Tota Mia, 35, of Katabari village of Gobindaganj upazila in Gaibandha district. The injured were whisked to Ghoraghat Health Complex in critical condition. Our Netrakona correspondent adds: An old man was killed on the spot and at least nine were injured when a Netrakona-bound bus collided head-on with a Kendua-bound tempo in Banuapara area of the town on Wednesday night. The deceased was Ekhlash Uddin, 65, of village Panchbasati of Atpara upazila in the district. The injured were admitted to Netrakona Sadar Hospital and Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Staff correspondent from Rajshahi says: Two motorcyclists were killed on the spot when a goods-laden truck rammed them from opposite direction on the Rajshahi-Natore highway in Kapasia area in Puthia upazila yesterday noon. The deceased were Mohammad Lipton, 25, of Rothbari, and Shohel Rana, 26, of Bongozzol of Natore town. Our Pabna correspondent adds: A Nasiman driver was killed and a vegetables trader injured when a speedy truck hit a vegetables-laden Nasiman, locally made three-wheeler, on Shekherchar-Ishwardi road at Nawdapara village in Ishwardi upazila on Wednesday night. The deceased was Taizul Islam, 35, son of Abdul Jobbar, of village Kolerkandi of Ishwardi upazila. The injured vegetables trader, Dablu Miah, was admitted to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex.
