JU student found dead

A first year student of Jahangirnagar University (JU) under 2011-12 academic session was found dead in room no 401 of Moulana Bhashani Hall of the university yesterday. The victim, identified as Vannei Liyan Bom, 20, hailed from Lairun Pe village of Ruma thana in Bandarban and had been admitted in the Archaeology department under indigenous quota. His roommate Uhai Singh of Economics department said Liyan reached the university on Wednesday as his first class was supposed to be held yesterday. Liyan returned to his hall from Zahir Raihan Auditorium after watching a movie at around 4:00pm on Wednesday and showed no symptom of illness. Hall sources said yesterday morning his friends were calling him to attend his class, and as there was no response they informed the authorities. Liyan was rushed to Savar Enam Medical College Hospital in an unconscious state at around 10:00am. Doctors declared him dead on arrival. Dr Shawkat Ali, a physician in the emergency department, said he had died four to five hours before he was brought to the hospital. Maybe he died of cardiac arrest, the doctor added.
