BCL men beat RU student

A group of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists severely beat a student of Rajshahi University (RU) on the campus yesterday. Witnesses said around 10 BCL activists of the university unit led by Abdus Salam and Manirul Islam severely beat Tofazzel Hossain, a final year student of Anthropology department, at Tukitaki Chattar on the campus at around 2:00pm suspecting him a Shibir activist. On information, law enforcers took Tofazzel to Matihar Police Station after rescuing him. Tofazzel alleged that BCL activists Abdus Salam and Manirul Islam along with around 10 activists made a sudden attack on him with iron rods while he was taking tea with his friends on the campus. He denied his involvement with any political organisations. Officer-in-charge of Motihar Police Station Akbar Ali said Tofazzel was freed after investigation, as the police did not find any evidence of Tofazzel's involvement with Shibir. RU unit BCL President Ahamed Ali and General SecretaryAbu Hossain Bipu said the incident had happened due to misunderstanding.
