Green activists and civil society members urged the government to take steps against Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) as it allegedly had been hatching a "conspiracy" to hand over the responsibility of Jinda Park to another group. They claimed that if the responsibility of the park, located at Rupganj in Narayanganj, went to others, it would not be maintained efficiently. As a result, its natural beauty and ecological balance would be pushed into ruin. They made the call at a human chain programme yesterday in front of Fine Arts Faculty of Dhaka University. The speakers alleged that Rajuk was out to form a new managing committee of the park loyal to it. A group of youths established the park three decades ago and since then they have been maintaining it. Around 4,000 people are earning their livelihood by working in the 150-acre park, they said. Writer Kamal Lohani, Paribesh Bachao Andolon Chairman Abu Naser, Jinda Park Director Abdul Halim and its adviser Nazimuddin Raj, among others, addressed the programme.
