7 killed, 42 injured in road accidents

Seven people were killed and 42 others injured in road accidents in Lalmonirhat, Benapole, Savar, Sirajganj, Khulna and Tangail yesterday and on Friday. In Lalmonirhat, a woman was killed and her husband injured critically as a bus hit their motorcycle on Lalmonirhat- Burimari highway in Namuri area of Aditmari upazila yesterday. The deceased is Narzina Begum, 42, wife of Dulal Miah, 48, from Katalbari village of Rajarhat upazila in Kurigram. The injured was admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Our Benapole Correspondent reports: A motorcyclist was killed on the spot and another injured as their motorcycle skidded off the road and hit a roadside tree at Kalagachi in Keshobpur upazila in Jessore yesterday morning. The deceased was identified as Enamul Haque, 14, son of Abdul Gaffer of Batikhola village in the upazila. The injured, Belal Hossain, was admitted to Keshobpur Upazila Health Complex. UNB from Savar reports: A man was killed and 30 students of Anjuman-e-Mafidul Islam orphanage were injured in a road crash at Jorpul on Dhaka-Aricha highway on Friday night. The deceased was identified as Shahadat, 26, a helper of a covered van, hailed from Faridpur district. Police said the accident took place at about 9:15pm when a BRTC double-decker bus carrying the students overturned after hitting a covered van, leaving 31 injured. The injured were rushed to Enam Medical College Hospital and clinics where Shahadat died yesterday morning. The students met the tragic accident when returning home after having a picnic. UNB Sirajganj adds: a Dhaka-bound truck ran over a woman on Dhaka-Bogra highway in Raiganj upazila while she was crossing the road at about 9am on Friday, said police. Shafina Begum, 53, wife of late Azgar Ali of Char Langalmura village at Dhunot upazila in Bogra district, died on the spot. The body was sent it to a local hospital morgue for autopsy. A case was filed. In another accident, an unidentified helper of a bus driver died and nine others sustained injuries when a Bogra-bound bus of Hanif Enterprise from Dhaka hit a bridge railing as its driver lost control over the steering at Bhuiyagati in the upazila on Friday morning. UNB Khulna adds: a minor boy was killed on Khulna-Jessore highway in Maniktala area as a Khulna-bound bus hit him while he was crossing the road at about 10:30am on Friday. The victim was identified as Rony, 5, son of Rehena Khatun, a worker of Maniktala Food Godown. Protesting the accident, agitating people put barricade on the highway disrupting traffic for two hours. UNB Tangail correspondent reports: motorcyclist Shah Alam, 25, son of Hasen Mandol of Sabulkura village, was killed instantly and his co-rider Shamim, 20, injured as a bus hit his bike at Matikata village in Bhuapur upazila at about 7:30pm on Friday. Injured Shamim was admitted to Bhuapur Upazila Health Complex.
