PDB hopes to raise electricity production by 2,087 MW
National power grid is likely to get an additional 2,087 megawatts of electricity this year as Power Development Board (PDB) plans to complete the installation of 22 power plants.
Seven of the power plants, capable of generating 995 MW of electricity, are under the public sector while the remaining power plants, generating the rest, are under the private sector.
According to PDB, installation work of four power plants, generating 220 MW, is scheduled to be completed by March.
By April, two more generating 150 MW would be set up and another three generating 250 MW would be completed by May this year.
The PDB expects to complete the installation of seven power plants, including a 100 MW wind and a 5 MW solar-powered plant, by June.
Construction work of the 100 MW Chapainawabganj power plant is expected to be completed by September this year.
Under independent power producer, installation work of four major power projects, including the first unit of Bibiana gas-fired power plant, will be completed by December this year.
A PDB official said, “As per the government's power generation expansion plan, PDB is working hard to complete the construction work of these power plants by this year.
“It will help us to ease the vexing power crisis to a large extent.”
At present, PDB's power generation capacity varies from 5,500 MW to 6,000 MW against the country's maximum demand of around 6,000 MW.
