The Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) wing of Chittagong University (CU) demanded installation of a Model Police Station on the campus to ensure security of the students. They put forward the demand at a meeting with the ten-member 'Liaison Committee', which was formed by the university authority to maintain peace and order on the campus, at CU Teachers' Club yesterday. Twenty leaders and activists of BCL CU unit, including its President Mamunul Hoque and General Secretary M A Khaled Chowdury, attended the meeting with the committee headed by Prof Dr Khan Touhid Osman, also student adviser, sources said. “We discussed with the BCL leaders about maintaining a fair and congenial atmosphere of education on the campus after reopening of the university on March 3”, said Khan Touhid Osman, head of the Liaison Committee. They (BCL) assured us of help in this regard, he added. Other demands placed by the BCL included withdrawal of cases against its leaders and activists in connection with the February 8 clash between the activists of BCL and Islami Chhatra Shibir that led to the death of two students. The committee, which was formed following the clash, is also scheduled to sit with the CU unit leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal today.
