Nab killers of Sagar-Runi

Nur Jahan, Chittagong

We are assailed by depressing and horrifying news almost every day; there seems no respite for us. I try my best to find something to make me joyous and express it through my writing, but that too in vain. When I am writing this letter, fourteen days have passed since the violent killing of Sagar Sarwar and Mehrun Runi has numbed us all with shock and pain. Lives of two very promising journalists were cut short. It is an irreparable loss to the country. It is a matter of great concern that police could not arrest anyone linked to this grisly murder or shed light on the motive behind it. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said on February 23, 2012 that all the evidences of the killing of Sagar and Runi got destroyed due to the crowding of newsmen at the crime scene. But is it not the responsibility of the policemen to cordon off the crime scene so that no evidence is destroyed? We know that it is possible to catch criminals even from a minute evidence. So, utmost efforts must be put on to identify the murderers, otherwise this sort of incidents will increase and no one will be safe anywhere.
