Two dyeing factories fined
The Department of Environment (DoE) fined the owners of two dyeing factories Tk 28.5 lakh in Narayanganj yesterday on charge of polluting the Shitalakkha river by dumping chemical mixed waste.
Mohammad Munir Chowdhury, the DoE director (enforcement), has also directed the authorities concerned to shut down the factories-- National Textile and Processing Industries, and SB Neat Composite--in Fatullah.
These two factories had been run illegally for the last nine years. They did not have environment certificate and Effluents Treatment Plant (ETP), said a DoE press release.
Around nine crore litre of chemical mixed waste from the factories has been dumped directly into the Shitalakkha, the press release added.
