Seven people killed in road accidents

Seven people were killed and five others injured in separate road accidents in Madaripur, Jessore, Manikganj and Dinajpur yesterday. Our Madaripur Correspondent reports: Three people, including two of a family, were killed and another was injured as a truck rammed a rickshaw-van in Madaripur town yesterday. The deceased are the rickshaw-van driver Abdul Halim Dhali, 40, and its (rickshaw-van ) passengers Azibor Bepari, 40, of Char Gobindapur village in Sadar upazila, and his daughter Tanjila Akter, 14, a class VIII student of a local school. Injured Sumaiya Akter, 12, another daughter of Azibor, was admitted to Madaripur Sadar Hospital. A truck hit the rickshaw-van in Kulpoddi area at around 8:30am, leaving the three people dead on the spot and another injured, said police. The police arrested Titu Sardar, the helper of the truck, who was driving the vehicle. Our Benapole Correspondent adds: Two people were killed in separate road crashes in Jessore yesterday night. Abu Hanif, 65, a resident of Chhotoachra village in Benapole, died on the spot as a speeding bus ran over him in Mothbari area of Jhikorgacha upazila under Jessore, said police. Meanwhile, Julekha Khatun Juli, 7, daughter of Monir Hossain of the same village, died on the spot as an Indian truck hit her at transshipment yard of the Benapole port, said the police. The police seized the truck and arrested its Indian driver. Our Manikganj Correspondent adds: One person was killed and four others were injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a tempo on Dhaka-Aricha highway at Manora in Manikganj yesterday. A Dhaka bound bus of Jatriseba Paribahan collided head-on with a tempo coming from the opposite direction, leaving the tempo driver dead on the spot and four others injured. The deceased is Alamgir Hossain, 32, son of late Jinnat Ali of Joyra village in Manikganj Sadar upazila. The injured Selim Hossain, 34, Reaz Ahmed, 35, Sabuj Mia, 18, and Mojid Mia were admitted to Manikganj Sadar Hospital. Our Dinajpur Correspondent reports: A woman was killed in a road accident in Nawabganj upazila yesterday. The victim was identified as Aleya Begum, 48, wife of late Abdul Mannan of Moheshpur village of the upazila. A battery-run auto-rickshaw hit Aleya while she was crossing Nawabganj-Biampur road in Chhoto Mohespur area at around 4:30pm, leaving her injured critically. Locals rushed her to the upazila health complex, where she succumbed to her injuries.
